1. Could Covid-19 Tip(ple) The Scales In Favour Of Alcohol Delivery Services?
A consortium of trade bodies and liquor manufacturers has petitioned the centre to amend existing excise laws to allow for home delivery of alcohol, especially during the coronavirus lockdown. The lockdown, which has been further extended till May 3rd, has seen sales and excise revenues plummet to an all time low. With alcohol delivery surging upwards of 93% and customer acquisition up by 595% in the US which also remains under lockdown, it remains to be seen whether the government toasts or roasts this lucrative proposal entirely. 2.Anand Mahindra Turns Over A New Leaf
While the rest of corporate India rushes to the aid of India’s economically disadvantaged population in these times of crisis, Anand Mahindra has emerged as the unwitting saviour of banana farmers who were hit hard by the lockdown. Mr. Mahindra has swapped out regular steel and plastic plates from his organisation’s canteens and dining rooms in favour of indigenous banana leaves to help banana farmers financially. 3. India Inc. Hits The Restart Button
At least eight publicly listed companies have taken steps to restart operations with a limited workforce after obtaining permission from the authorities. The list of companies includes Pidilite Industries, the country’s largest adhesive maker; Eveready Industries, the largest dry cell maker; Navin Fluorine, a market leader in fluoro-chemicals; Hikal, a manufacturer of active pharmaceutical ingredients; Prataap Snacks, a major manufacturer of packaged ring snacks; carbon steel pipe maker Man Industries; and Yasho Industries, which supplies intermediate oils to personal care companies. 4. In Tata We Trust…
At the forefront of corporate India’s response to the coronavirus, Tata Trusts and it’s sister company, Tata International have airlifted close to one crore units of PPE or Personal Protection Equipment kits (including coveralls, masks, gloves and goggles), N95/KN95 masks and surgical masks of different grades. The supplies are being transported through Air India aircraft. Doling out Rs. 150 crore for the entire exercise, Ratan Tata and his half-brother Noel Tata are among the league of extraordinary gentlemen helping corporate India navigate weather this storm. 5. Odisha Shows Up For Our Furry Friends
The Odisha government has approved Rs. 80 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) for feeding our furry friends in urban areas during the extended phase of the Covid-19 lockdown which is scheduled to end on May 3.The funds will be provided to five municipal corporations, 48 municipalities, and 61 local bodies to provide for food to stray dogs and other animals.
