5 Headlines This Week That Aren’t All Doom and Gloom

1. Open up, it’s the Police…. with cake!  heart-warming

A video of the Panchkula Police went viral as they surprised a senior citizen with cake on his Birthday. The video shows an old man walking up to the gate with an amused expression on his face. On seeing the police waiting for Karan Puri who lives alone, with a Birthday cake and hearing a loud Happy Birthday, tears well up in his eyes. Watch the video here…

2.Relief on Wheels for those stranded

Chugging along the route to recovery, Shramil Special Trains will now run to take tourists, migrants, workers, pilgrims and students back to their homes. Sources reveal that these trains will run from point to point as per standard protocol requested by multiple state governments. This will take place as per the guidelines of the Ministry of Home Affairs. Five such operated on Friday which included Aluva to Bhubaneswar, Nasik to Lucknow, Nasik to Bhopal, Jaipur to Patna and Kota to Hatia. 3. Art fetches Rs 4.14 crore for COVID-19 Charity Fund 

An abstract painting by Sadhguru who founded the Isha Foundation was sold for Rs 4.14 crore. This initiative also runs the #BeatTheVirus campaign. The plan is to prevent the coronavirus pandemic from making its way into the villages of Coimbatore. The Foundation’s #BeatTheVirus fund aims to provide health and nourishment to daily wage workers from rural India with approximately 2 lakh residents. Read more here…

4. COVID- 19 Helplines that actually help 

There are quite a few helplines that provide 24/7 help to citizens and cater to those im dire need of help or support.  Namely the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) helpline number 02227567269, which was started on April 1. This helpline has over 6 doctors who provide services on three different lines with 8 hour shifts active on three different lines. Read more here…

5. US helps India lead the fight against COVID-19 

The US declared a $3 million relief package to help India battle COVID-19. The funding is to be provided to the Partnerships for Affordable Healthcare Access and Longevity (PAHAL) project. This will aid the Government in slowing down the spread of COVID, provide healthcare to those affected and join hands with local communities with essential tools and measures required to combat and contain the disease.
